Tausug Samal Yakan called it pag olgan  The Publisher also didn't know exactly where did it come from. Anyhow, from the our kamaasan. Pagolgan was common among Samal Sea bajaus during their wedding reception. Now adays it is popular not only among Samal Sea-bajaus but it is popular also among Tausug, Yakan and even Malay people & Natives of Sabah Malysia. It was brought here in Sabah by the Tausug and Bajaus from mainland Sulu archipelago during the time of Panglima Elidji. The Pangalay of Tausug was dance together with a beating of the GONG & Kulintangan.
